VINDOBONA ALTARPIECE III - SNAKES AND LADDERS

Update May 2015:
For some time now I've been asked to write a little something about this work by the collector who owns it. I finally did take the time and wound up writing something just short of my life story. I composed it on Google documents and downloaded it as pdf, which I then uploaded to Issuu. This is embedded on my website, together with download links for the document (as pdf and ODT files):
www.artofthemystic.com/vindobo…

This drawing was entered in the SECOND SAACHI GALLERY SHOWDOWN COMPETITION, ROUND 5 (many years ago) - thanks to your votes, it made the TOP 50 FAVORITES!

I was recently on an Albrecht Durer kick and I thought I'd look around and see if anyone today could still produce that quality of a collage...apparently the answer is yes. I will be buying this print.

I should have answered this long ago - yes, you are right, Rudolf Hausner. I met up with him in 1980..... but there are also other references in there, such as Ernst Fuchs' Unicorn. Has to do with my deep connectivity to the Vienna School (thus the title).

My present wife is Viennese and I myself have lived in Vienna. I remember my first meeting with The Vienna School of Fantastic Realism; it was for me the missing link between surrealism and psychedelic painting. I’ve recently read that they have opened a new museum in Vienna dedicated to Die Wiener Schule der Phantastische Realismus and am looking forward to visiting, perhaps this summer (Phantastenmuseum Wien – Palais Palffy).

What an honor to have met Rudolf Hausner! My former wife’s father (also Viennese) was apparently friends with Fuchs, but that was before I met her …

Great layout ! ..A Nice flow that lands on the eye like a fly that gives my pupil a massage with it's feet...rather than immediately annoying me into the instinctive 'shu away' action !

Very poetic - I am flattered. This is indeed my best drawing to date. Now I am saddened to think that it has been 13 years since then......

On another subject: I like the philosophy in your footnote. When I am hungry, I want my food NOW......... as long as it isn't still alive.......... beef has to be rare: knock off the horns, wipe the butt and bring it on!
Cheers

it weaves an intriguing narrative.. like an unraveling of abandoned influences, forgotten tangents that have feathered out into the endless depths of conscious endeavor. both alluring and bewildering at one time ? .. such dedication to a single piece is inspiring...

Nice piece - The choice of media was right, if you'd coloured it, it would have appeared very bustled and frantic.

As it stands, the picture has alot going on, but the same tones make it less bustled.

Your work on toning and curvature is flawless. Love it. :+fav:

no, isn't, but voting on the Showdown doesn't start until next week (submissions all through this week). You can join, however, to get in on the rat race. Should be able to, anybody can register - I did that not long ago - just a few weeks before I found deviantArt (found it through a news paper article).
Cheers
Otto
