CONSUMPTION OF TIME
acrylic on canvas 28"x20" 1976

an old one - it was missing in my line-up here, but someone asked for it, so here it is!

You caught that! No, I didn't know him. These faces just jumped out at me back then from his work (I lost his book "Milk and Honey"). I admired Fuchs, and Klarwein was a friend of his. But since you mentioned it: we all take inspiration from one another. Klarwein had taken some from photos that were published in "Millennium - Tribal Wisdom and the Modern World" by David Maybury-Lewis, I found out many years later by reading the book and seeing the images in it.
Cheers
Otto

Addendum: The photos that Maybury-Lewis used must have been from some earlier -archives, since the book and TV series wasn't published until 1992.

The watch is my old railway conductors watch, and the clock is an antique I used to own (both now also lost).

I just had a flashback. :) The face on the left is similar to the one on the cover of the Miles Davis album 'Bitches Brew'. I remember I did a (big) scaled up painting of it. Thanks for reminding me. :)

Hi Otto!
Mati Hara Klarwein was a major artist in the ''Réalisme fantastique"" school.
I was fascinated by his works when i discover this magic world especially by the ceiling of the Aleph Sanctuary. Tell me Otto, did you always live in Canada? Feel free...

This reminds me of La Persistencia De La Memoria.

Very nice. But, Otto? Could it be that I see a bit of Abdul Mati Klarwein in there? ;)
